Why here

Three twelve-year-olds side by side

Most wine & spirits shops carry at most the entry-level bottle of The Quiet Man. What you rarely see together are the three twelve-year-old single malts: one on Bordeaux casks, one on sherry and the An Culchiste. The same whiskey, the same age, three different casks.

Also the regular blend and two single malts without an age statement. Not sure which one you need? Give us a call. That is what we are here for.

Where to begin with The Quiet Man

Three bottles without age statement, all at 40 percent.

About the brand

Named after a bartender who never told a soul

  • The Quiet Man in three facts
  • Johnthe founder's father, a bartender for over fifty years.
  • CiaranMulgrew, who named the brand after himself.
  • 3twelve-year-olds with their own cask finish with us.

The Quiet Man was conceived by Ciaran Mulgrew, who named the brand after his father John. He stood behind the bar for over fifty years and heard all sorts in those years, but kept to the unwritten rule of the trade and told nothing on. Hence the name.

The range runs from a regular blend to aged single malts. The three twelve-year-olds are the most interesting to set side by side: Bordeaux, sherry and An Culchiste, all three bottled at 46 percent while the entry-level bottles are at 40.

That difference in bottling strength is not a detail. At 46 percent more of the cask stays in the glass; at 40 percent a whiskey becomes more approachable but also flatter. With this brand you can taste those two approaches side by side.

The bartender's code as a brand name: he heard everything and passed nothing on.

The same age, three casks, all three at 46 percent.

Frequently asked questions about The Quiet Man

How many The Quiet Man does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Six different bottles, including three twelve-year-old single malts, each with its own cask finish. All six are available at the moment.

Where does the name come from?

From John Mulgrew, the father of founder Ciaran Mulgrew. He stood behind the bar for more than fifty years and kept to the bartender’s code: he heard everything and told nothing.

What is the difference between the three twelve-year-olds?

The cask. One is finished on Bordeaux casks, the other on sherry and the third appears as An Culchiste. All three are twelve years old and bottled at 46 percent.

What does 40 versus 46 percent mean?

At 46 percent, more of the cask and more of the structure stays in the glass. At 40 percent, a whiskey becomes more approachable, but also flatter. This brand offers both approaches side by side.

Is The Quiet Man a blend or a single malt?

Both. The Traditional is a blend; the rest of our range is single malt.
