A pils that used to be just a pils
There are two ways to arrive at non-alcoholic beer: you slow down the fermentation, or you brew ordinary beer and remove the alcohol afterwards. TexFree belongs to the second group. The Texel pilsner is fully brewed and then passes through an installation that removes the alcohol and the yeast cells.
That also explains why the label can state 0 percent. If you want a pilsner without alcohol, this is the beer to look for on our alcohol-free shelf.
We have one in stock, in the 30-centilitre bottle. Feel free to ask about the rest of the alcohol-free beer if you would like to compare.

Family brewery Diks in Den Burg
- The brewery in brief
- Den BurgThe brewery is on the Meyertebos on Texel.
- DiksTesselaar is the beer brand of Familiebrouwerij Diks.
- LindeboomTexFree was developed together with the Lindeboom Brewery in Limburg.
- 2025The second generation of the Diks family takes over in June.
Tesselaar is the beer brand of Familiebrouwerij Diks in Den Burg on Texel. In June 2025 the second generation of the family (Sander, Jasper and Marinka) took over from their parents.
TexFree 0.0 was developed together with the Lindeboom Brouwerij in Limburg. The regular pils from Texel is first fully brewed and then goes through an installation that removes the alcohol and the yeast cells. The brewery itself calls it the only alcohol-free pilsner from Texel.
Please note: Tesselaar and Texels are not the same brewery. They are two different companies on the same island, and both have a 0.0 on our shelf.
First simply brew a pilsner, then take the alcohol out.
What does 0.0 mean, and where is the limit?
In the Netherlands, the Commodities Act determines what may appear on the label. The term alcohol-free may be used up to and including 0.1 percent alcohol. Low-alcohol runs from more than 0.1 percent up to and including 1.2 percent. A beer of 0.2 or 0.3 percent therefore belongs to that second group, even if “non alcoholic” is printed in large letters on the packaging.
The Dutch Alcohol Act draws its own line: a drink with more than 0.5 percent alcohol at twenty degrees counts as an alcoholic beverage. Those two limits are not in the same place, and that is where much of the confusion comes from.
0.0 is not itself a legal designation. It is a number that brewers put on the label for beer that has practically no alcohol left in it. TexFree has it, and the label information in our online shop gives 0 percent. That is therefore a different category from a beer with 0.2 or 0.3 percent on the packaging.
