A garden on an island as a recipe
Garnish Island lies in Bantry Bay, in the south-west of Ireland. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, plants grow there that you would not expect at that latitude; the island is known for its Italian-style gardens. That idea is in this gin: hibiscus, iris, rose, rosemary and thyme alongside the juniper.
We also stock whisky from West Cork Distillers. It is on the West Cork whisky page.

- 46%The strength of this gin.
West Cork Distillers was set up in 2003 by three friends in Skibbereen, a small town on the south-west coast of Ireland. The house has remained entirely in Irish hands and so belongs to the small group of Irish distilleries without a foreign owner.
They do an unusual amount themselves: the grain is milled at the distillery itself and there is a whole row of kettles, pot stills and column stills mixed together. For the gin, the botanicals first steep for sixteen hours before distilling.
The gin is not chill-filtered. It can therefore turn slightly cloudy when you dilute it. That is part of it.
The herbs first steep for sixteen hours, and only then is the still switched on.
What this gin goes with
With hibiscus, rose and iris in the recipe, this bottle sits on the floral side of the gin spectrum, not the sharp one.
46 percent is sturdy enough to stand up in a gin and tonic; then choose a tonic that does not bring too much flavour itself.
If you would like the whisky from the same house as well, see the West Cork whisky page.
