Old Pulteney 12 Years alongside H. Upmann Half Corona
A briny Highland malt alongside a short Cuban cigar. The pairing is meant for those who do not have an hour to spare.

From the shelf
The bottle
Old Pulteney is in Wick, on the north-east coast of the Highlands. This bottling carries twelve years, matured in oak casks and is at 40 percent by volume. On the nose citrus, dark caramel and cream; in the mouth honey and ripe fruit, with a salty edge that lingers in the finish.
The combination
Why this works together
A half corona is short and not heavy, but it does bring the earthy note of Cuban tobacco. That earthiness plays off the salt in the whisky and brings the smoky note forward without inflating it. The cigar is too short to become heavy, and at 40 percent ABV the whisky brings no sharpness.
Beside the glass
The cigar
We do not sell cigars; we supply the whisky. These cigars go well alongside this bottle.

- H. Upmann Half Corona Cuban size of 90 mm, mild to medium; smoked in half an hour, so suited to anyone who does not have an hour to spare.
- Romeo y Julieta Petit Coronas Short Cuban with a woody, floral style that leaves room for the salt in the whisky.
- Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto Thicker but just as short, with the lighter touch this house is known for.
- Por Larrañaga Petit Coronas One of the mildest Cuban sizes, pleasant when the tobacco is allowed to stay in the background.
