Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10 Years Old alongside Partagás Serie E No. 2
Bruichladdich's peated line next to a thick Cuban robusto extra. What counts here is mainly the size: a wide cigar opposite a broad whisky.

From the shelf
The bottle
Port Charlotte is the peated single malt from Bruichladdich on Islay. This bottling is ten years old and stands at 46 percent by volume. For this series Bruichladdich works with one hundred percent Scottish barley and distils in tall stills with a narrow neck; distilling, maturing and bottling all take place on Islay itself.
The combination
Why this works together
The Serie E No. 2 is 140 mm long and strikingly thick. That width lets more tobacco take part at once, so the smoke arrives fuller than with a slim size. Partagás adds earth and pepper. Next to a malt in which peat is the main note, that combination ensures the cigar does not fade into the background.
Beside the glass
The cigar
We do not sell cigars; we supply the whisky. These cigars go well alongside this bottle.

- Partagás Serie E No. 2 Cuban robusto extra of 140 mm, thick and earthy, with enough body alongside the peat of Islay.
- Juan López Selección No. 2 Robusto of 124 mm, slightly shorter and drier in tone, which gives the cask in the whisky more room.
- Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de Río Seco Just as thick and just as long, but sweeter in the wood than the Partagás.
- Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970 Robusto Grande Nicaraguan and peppery, a different kind of weight than the earth of the Cubans.
In the glass
Serving
Neat in a tulip-shaped glass. At 46% ABV water is not necessary; if you still find the whisky sharp alongside the smoke, add a few drops. Always take a sip once the smoke has left your mouth.
