Japanese whisky from a maker with a story
Ichiro Akuto bought the remaining casks of the closed family distillery Hanyu and then built his own house in Chichibu. That makes him one of the few Japanese producers to have both a closed and a new distillery to his name.
We have four bottles, including the rare Double Distilleries. If you are not sure which one you need, just give us a call. That is what we are here for.

The Akuto family ran a distillery in Hanyu for generations. When the company was sold, the remaining casks were in danger of being lost; Ichiro Akuto bought them up personally. In 2004 he founded Venture Whisky to bottle them.
From that stock came the Card Series: fifty-four bottlings with playing cards on the label, released between 2005 and 2014. A complete set fetched well over one and a half million dollars at auction in 2020.
In 2007 Akuto built its own distillery in Chichibu, northwest of Tokyo; production began in 2008. Since then both its own whisky and blends containing whisky from elsewhere have appeared under the name Ichiro’s Malt. The Malt & Grain says World Blended, which means it also contains foreign whisky.

What is the Card Series?
A series of fifty-four bottlings with playing cards on the label, made from the rescued Hanyu stock and released between 2005 and 2014. We do not have those in stock.
What does World Blended mean?
That the bottle contains whisky from outside Japan as well as Japanese whisky. This is stated on the label.
