Why here

A bottle from a distillery that no longer exists

Nothing more can be added from Imperial. The buildings were demolished in 2013; whatever still appears comes from casks filled before 1998.

We have one: a twenty-seven-year-old, bottled by Living Souls. If you are not sure whether this is the bottle for you, give us a call. That is what we are here for.

The bottle

A twenty-seven-year-old from bottler Living Souls.

About the distillery

Closed, demolished, replaced

  • Imperial in five facts
  • 1897Thomas Mackenzie builds Imperial in Carron, Strathspey.
  • Sporadicthe distillery ran with many interruptions.
  • 1998the last spirit runs off the stills.
  • 2013the buildings are being demolished.
  • 2015on the same site, Dalmunach opens.

Imperial was built in 1897 by Thomas Mackenzie in Carron, in the middle of Strathspey. The distillery has never run for long at a stretch: periods of production were always followed by years of standstill.

In 1998 it fell silent for good. In 2013 the buildings were demolished; two years later the new Dalmunach distillery of Chivas Brothers opened on the same site.

Under its own name there has been only one official bottling, a fifteen-year-old from the mid-1990s. Everything else you come across comes from independent bottlers, from casks filled before 1998.

Every bottle of Imperial is one that cannot be replaced.
