Two bottles from a house dating from 1757
Kilbeggan is one of the few Irish distilleries where a nineteenth-century still still stands and a water wheel turns. The regular blend is a pleasant, affordable entry-level bottle; the Black is the peated variant.
If you are not sure which one you need, give us a quick call. That is what we are here for.

- Kilbeggan in five facts
- 1757the year on the licence; a copy hangs in the distillery.
- The fiftiesproduction comes to a halt.
- 1988Cooley buys the premises.
- 2007distilling starts again, on the 250th anniversary.
- 2xdistilled, where Irish whiskey usually goes through three times.
Kilbeggan stands on the River Brosna in County Westmeath and gives 1757 as its founding year; a copy of that license hangs in the building. In the 1950s production came to a halt. The building remained standing and was bought by Cooley in 1988; in 2007, on its 250th anniversary, spirit once again ran through the stills.
There are two small pot stills and a restored nineteenth-century water wheel. Kilbeggan distils twice rather than the three times that is customary in Ireland. The distillery is now part of Suntory Global Spirits.
Good to know: not everything sold under the Kilbeggan name comes from Kilbeggan. Some of it is still made at Cooley. Only for a few bottlings, such as the Small Batch Rye and the Single Pot Still, does the brand itself say that they were fully distilled and matured in Kilbeggan.
A licence from 1757, a water wheel, and an honest story about what is made where.
