Most shops have the Terra at best. We have all four core bottlings side by side (Terra, Mara, Flora and the fifteen-year-old Strata) and on top of that seven separate editions.

Mac-Talla is the Islay brand of Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, the same house behind Old Perth and Càrn Mòr. The name is Gaelic for echo and refers to the Morrison family’s bond with the island: they bought Bowmore in 1963 and sold Morrison Bowmore Distillers to Suntory in 1994.

The house does not disclose which Islay distillery the whisky comes from. No name appears on any of the official pages. We do not guess at it; what does appear is the cask, the strength and, for the Strata, an age.

The standard range consists of four parts, each with its own idea. Terra stands for the earth and the peat smoke, Mara for the maritime and is bottled at cask strength, Flora is lightly peated and leans on sherry, and Strata is named after the rock layers on the coast of Islay.

What does Mac-Talla mean?

Echo, in Scots Gaelic. The name refers to the Morrison family's bond with Islay.

Which distillery does Mac-Talla come from?

Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers does not disclose this. No official page gives a distillery name. We do not add a name that has not been confirmed.

What is the difference between Terra, Mara, Flora and Strata?

Terra is the classic bottling on American oak, Mara is bottled at cask strength, Flora is lightly peated and leans on sherry, and Strata is fifteen years old from bourbon and sherry casks.

What is Feis Ile?

The annual whisky festival on Islay. Distilleries and brands release special bottles for it; the 2026 Cognac edition is one of them.
