Why here

Four regular bottles and three rare ones

We have all four US-1 bottles: American Whiskey, bourbon, sour mash and rye. In addition, two ten-year-old single casks and a Shenk’s Homestead from the Legacy range, with which the house honours its own history.

What stands out is the bottling strength: every bottle has its own. If you do not know which one to choose, give us a call. That is what we are here for.

The permanent US-1 range

Four bottles, four kinds of whiskey, four different strengths.

About the house

A name made of two first names

  • Michter’s in four facts
  • 1753the year that the house itself names as its starting point.
  • 1951the name Michter’s comes from Michael and Peter.
  • 1989the original distillery in Pennsylvania closes.
  • 2015the first casks are filled in Shively, Louisville.

Michter’s traces its history back to 1753, when the Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk began distilling in Schaefferstown in Pennsylvania. In the middle of the nineteenth century the distillery passed into the hands of Abraham Bomberger, who worked there for decades under his own name.

The name Michter’s is much younger. Owner Louis Forman devised it in 1951 from the first names of his sons Michael and Peter. In 1989 the distillery in Pennsylvania closed after a bankruptcy and the brand disappeared. Joseph Magliocco and Dick Newman brought it back in the nineties.

Distilling has been done on site again since 2015, at the Shively distillery in Louisville, Kentucky; in 2019 Fort Nelson also opened in the city centre. Shenk’s Homestead and Bomberger’s Declaration belong to the Legacy range, which refers to those old Pennsylvania names.

Each bottle has its own strength, accurate to the tenth of a percent.
