A house that brought the world home
In 1856 merchants from Limerick, the city council and the harbour pooled money for a Sailors’ Home on O’Curry Street: shelter for sailors from all over the world who sailed up the Shannon. The building still stands, although it suffered serious damage from arson in 2023; the council bought it in 2026 to restore it.
In liquid form, the brand does what that house did: bringing Irish whiskey home in casks from all over. Oloroso from Spain, rum from Jamaica and Barbados, rhum agricole from Martinique, stout from home soil and madeira from Portugal.

Behind the brand is a whiskey maker who distilled his first spirit in 1979 and holds a doctorate in fermentation. The brand does not distil itself: the distillate is bought from Irish distilleries, after which the brand determines the maturation and finishing.
The Islands series is the most distinctive. In it, whiskey of at least ten years in American bourbon casks then spends further time in rum casks: Barbados for one bottle, rhum agricole from Martinique for the other.
The Explorer series works differently. It contains single pot still, blend and single malt, with finishes in sherry, Jamaican rum, Irish craft stout and madeira.
Irish whiskey, brought home in casks from all over.
What these bottles go with
Rum finishes give Irish whiskey a sweet, tropical side. If that is what you are after, you are in the right place here.
The two Islands bottles side by side show the difference between molasses rum and rhum agricole in the cask.

From the Sailors’ Home on O’Curry Street in Limerick, built in 1856 as lodgings for seamen. It is not the building of the same name in Dublin.
Do they distil it themselves?
No. The distillate is bought in from Irish distilleries; the brand determines the maturation and the finish.
What is the difference between the two ranges?
The Explorer range works with sherry, rum, stout and madeira. The Islands range is at least ten years old and is finished in rum casks from the Caribbean.
