Gin from an island where almost nothing grows
Vór means spring in Icelandic, and that is exactly what the brand is about: the short season in which enough grows in Iceland to harvest. Rhubarb, crowberry, birch leaf, creeping thyme, Iceland moss and seaweed are picked by hand.
The base is more special than it sounds: one hundred percent Icelandic barley, grown just below the Arctic Circle. Most gin starts with purchased neutral alcohol; here the grain comes from the island itself too.

Vór comes from Eimverk Distillery near Reykjavik, a family business that started in 2009 with the question of whether you can make good spirits from Icelandic barley. The same distillery also makes Icelandic whisky.
Barley barely grows in Iceland: the season is short and the yield low. According to the distillery, precisely those conditions give a sturdier, fuller distillate than grain from a mild climate.
The gin is distilled in pot stills and is not chill-filtered. That is why it can turn slightly cloudy when you mix it. That is part of it and is not a flaw.
Vór means spring: the short season in which there is something to pick in Iceland.
Why it becomes cloudy in the glass
Gin that is not chill-filtered retains oils from the botanicals that become visible at low temperature or when diluted. The glass then turns briefly milky.
Producers often filter out those oils to prevent this, but flavour goes with them. Eimverk chooses not to do so.
