Straight from the cask, and nothing else
Raw Cask is not a marketing term but a way of working: no colouring, no chill-filtering, no dilution. What was in the cask goes into the bottle. Sometimes there is even some wood sediment; that is part of it.
We have three rum bottlings, including one from the Dutch Flying Dutchman. A Scottish bottler that picks a Dutch cask is not something you come across often. The whisky from the same house is on the Blackadder whisky page.

A family business in Scotland
- The bottler in brief
- 1995The year most often cited as the start.
- Raw CaskThe designation on the label.
- FamilyTucek, now in its second generation.
- DiamondOne of the source distilleries.
Blackadder was set up by Robin Tucek and John Lamond and has since become a family business with his children on board. The name refers to the seventeenth-century minister John Blackadder.
The house began with whisky and has also been bottling rum for years. The casks come from well-known names: Diamond in Guyana, Clarendon and Hampden in Jamaica, Foursquare in Barbados.
What remains special is the Raw Cask approach. Where most bottlers filter to keep the bottle clear, Blackadder deliberately leaves that out.
No filtering, no colouring, and sometimes even a little wood in the bottle.
Where best to start
The Guyana Diamond is the most accessible of the three: a familiar style in a bottling you will not get from the brand itself.
The Clarendon from Jamaica is the most pronounced. The Flying Dutchman is the curiosity: Dutch rum, bottled in Scotland.

Frequently asked questions about Blackadder
How many bottles of Blackadder rum does ’t Bockje have in stock?
3: from Guyana, Jamaica and a Dutch Flying Dutchman.
What does Raw Cask mean?
That the rum is bottled untreated: no colouring, no chill filtration, at cask strength. Sometimes there is some wood sediment in the bottle.
Does Blackadder distil itself?
No. It is an independent bottler that buys individual casks.
Where does the name come from?
From the seventeenth-century Scottish preacher John Blackadder.
Does Blackadder also bottle whisky?
Yes, that is the main activity. It is on our Blackadder whisky page.
Will a bottle like that come back?
No. Each bottling comes from a single cask; when it is gone, it is gone.
