Why here

What triple malt means here

Triple malt does not refer to triple distillation but to three single malts blended together, from three French distilleries in three regions. By definition it is therefore a blended malt and not a single malt. The names of the supplying distilleries are deliberately not on the label.

The individual malts mature for three to eight years in French oak at the supplying houses. This is followed by roughly a year of finishing in a character cask, in chais in the Charente. The colour on the bottle tells you which cask was used: Noir is the peated expression, Prune is finished in casks that held French plum brandy.

About the house

Two Bordeaux natives without a still of their own

  • The brand in brief
  • Les BienheureuxThe house behind Bellevoye.
  • BordeauxWhere the founders come from.
  • November 2019Bercloux is being bought.
  • CharenteWhere the finishing takes place.

Bellevoye was conceived by Jean Moueix and Alexandre Sirech, two men from Bordeaux. They had no distillery of their own but did have an idea: buy malts from French distilleries in different regions, blend them, and finish the whole in a single cask.

The house behind the brand is called Les Bienheureux. For a long time they were buyers, blenders and maturers, and nothing more. Only in November 2019 did they buy their own distillery, Distillerie de Bercloux in Charente-Maritime, which was already one of their suppliers.

Bellevoye does not disclose, bottle by bottle, whether today's bottles consist wholly or partly of its own distillate. There is no Bellevoye distillery: it is a brand, and the blending is the story.

Three malts from three regions, and then one cask that defines the whole.

What to look out for

The colour on the bottle stands for the finish, not for an age or a distillery.

Both versions are bottled at forty-three percent; please check this on the label.
