Why here

A bottle that is only on sale in the Netherlands

The Peat & Sherry is bottled exclusively for the Dutch market, at 56.2 percent. In addition, we have six bottles with a code on the label (Cl12, Bw8, Pl6, Oc5, Oc6 and Lp10), each of which comes from a single Islay distillery whose name may not be mentioned.

For those who would rather just start: the Cask Edit at fifty euros is the accessible entry, with the Bourbon Cask and Sherry Cask as counterparts at cask strength. If you do not know which one you need, give us a call. That is what we are here for.

About the series

Whisky according to the periodic table

  • The series in four moments
  • 1999The brothers Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh start Speciality Drinks in London.
  • 2006Elements of Islay appears, with codes instead of names.
  • 2017The bottler continues as Elixir Distillers.
  • nowAlongside the coded bottles, a standard range: Cask Edit, Bourbon and Sherry.

Elements of Islay is a range from Elixir Distillers, the bottling company of the brothers Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh, the same people behind the shop The Whisky Exchange. They started in London in 1999 and released the range in 2006.

The idea is as simple as it is handy. Distilleries do not always allow their name to appear on a bottler’s bottle. Instead of an invented name this series chose a two-letter code, in the style of the periodic table, followed by a serial number that indicates which release it is. Connoisseurs know what the codes mean; it does not say on the bottle.

In addition, for a few years there has been a permanent range of blended malts: Cask Edit, Bourbon Cask and Sherry Cask, composed of malt from several Islay distilleries. Port Askaig also comes from the same makers.

The coded bottles come in rounded 50 cl bottles, always at cask strength.

What do those codes mean?

Each two-letter code stands for one Islay distillery, and the number after it is the number of the release: Lp10 is therefore the tenth release under the code Lp. Which distillery is behind which code is deliberately not stated, and we do not guess. The exception is the L1.0 on this page: that one did appear with the distillery name on the label.

Frequently asked questions about Elements of Islay

How many Elements of Islay does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Fifteen bottles, all available immediately: six from the standard range and nine with a code or a name of their own.

What do codes like Lp10 and Bw8 mean?

The two letters stand for an Islay distillery, the number for the number of the release. Lp10 is therefore the tenth release under that code. Which distillery it is exactly is deliberately not stated on the bottle.

Which Elements of Islay should you try first?

The Cask Edit. That is the accessible blended malt of the range, composed of malt from several Islay distilleries. If you want to compare, put the Bourbon Cask and the Sherry Cask next to it.

A bottling made exclusively for the Dutch market, at 56.2 percent. Such bottles are limited and do not come back.

Who is behind this range?

Elixir Distillers, the bottling company of Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh, also known for the shop The Whisky Exchange. The Port Askaig brand also comes from them.
