Why this works together
Chosen on the basis of the type (whisky) and the name (American whiskey). Bourbon and other American whiskey often have notes of vanilla and caramel from the oak; that suits barbecue and desserts with nuts and caramel.
What is needed
For 4 people
With the mealPulled pork in a bun
Ingredients
- 1.5 kilos pork shoulder
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 200 millilitres barbecue sauce
- 4 brioche buns
- 300 grams coleslaw
Method
- Preheat the oven to 140 °C.
- Rub the pork shoulder with the brown sugar, paprika, salt and pepper.
- Cook the meat, covered, with a little water in the bottom, in the oven for 5 to 6 hours until it falls apart.
- Pull the meat apart with two forks and stir it through the barbecue sauce.
- Cut open the brioche buns and toast them briefly.
- Fill the buns with the meat and the coleslaw.
With the cheeseMature cheddar
Ingredients
- 160 grams mature cheddar
Method
- Take the cheese out of the fridge about an hour before serving; that brings out the flavour best.
- Only cut or break the cheese just before serving.
After the mealPecan pie
Ingredients
- 1 roll of sweet shortcrust pastry
- 200 grams pecans
- 3 eggs
- 150 grams dark soft brown sugar
- 150 millilitres maple syrup
- 50 grams butter
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C and line a tart tin with the pastry.
- Toast the pecans in a dry pan for 5 minutes and coarsely chop half of them.
- Melt the butter and whisk it with the eggs, soft brown sugar, maple syrup and a pinch of salt into a smooth filling.
- Scatter the chopped nuts over the base, pour the filling over them and arrange the whole nuts on top.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the filling has set but still gives slightly in the middle.
- Leave to cool completely before cutting.

A cigar with Bimber Ex-Bourbon Oak Casks

My Father Le Bijou 1922 Petit Robusto
Why this works together
Also good with this whisky
We do not sell cigars; we supply the whisky.
NIX18.
