Why this works together

Chosen by type (whisky) and name (peat or smoke). A smoky whisky calls for dishes with a pronounced character of their own: smoked fish, something from the grill or a robust blue cheese.

For 4 people

Smoked eel on rye breadWith the mealSmoked eel on rye bread

  • 300 grams smoked eel
  • 8 slices of rye bread
  • 30 grams butter
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 bunch of chives
  • horseradish to taste

Method

  1. Take the eel out of the fridge a quarter of an hour before serving, remove the skin and bones and divide it into pieces.
  2. Spread the slices of rye bread with butter and place the eel on top.
  3. Grate some horseradish over it, sprinkle with finely snipped chives and serve with lemon wedges.

  • 160 grams Roquefort

A cigar with Smokehead Sherry Cask Blast

Een rokerige whisky, zo zegt de naam. Deze sigaar hebben wij uitgewerkt naast Connemara 12 Years Old Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey, ook een rokerige whisky.

Cigars
Our choice

Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2

Cubaanse robusto van gematigde sterkte; aards en licht koffieachtig, en licht genoeg om naast turf te blijven staan.

Why this works together

Smoke next to smoke adds up, which is why this only works with a whisky whose peat is restrained. That is the case here, certainly at 40 percent by volume. The Epicure No. 2 brings an earthy, slightly coffee-like smoke that goes in a different direction from the sweetish peat, and the little pepper note in the finish returns in the wrapper.

Also good with this whisky

We do not sell cigars; we supply the whisky.
