Why here

A ten-year-old from a distillery that has only just been around for ten years

The Adelphi bottling on this page is ten years old and was bottled in 2026. That means it comes from the very first casks filled here in 2015. It is the oldest whisky this distillery can supply.

In addition, three own bottlings under the name 1770, including one at cask strength and one with a double finish in red wine and port casks. If you are not sure which one you need, give us a call. That is what we are here for.

About the distillery

Whisky back in the city, after more than a century

  • The distillery in five moments
  • 1770The original Glasgow Distillery starts at Dundashill.
  • 1902That distillery closes; Glasgow is then left without a malt distillery.
  • 2012Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward re-establish the company.
  • 2015On 20 March the first spirit runs in Hillington.
  • 2018The first single malt appears: 5,000 bottles, raffled among interested parties.

Glasgow was once a whisky city. The original Glasgow Distillery on Dundashill was founded in 1770, one of the first licensed distilleries in Scotland, and made unpeated, peated and triple-distilled whisky until it closed in 1902. After that the city went more than a hundred years without a malt distillery of its own.

In 2012 Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward re-founded the company, with the same name. They built a distillery in Hillington on the edge of the city; in March 2015 the first spirit ran. Gin came first, as at every new distillery, and in 2018 the first single malt: five thousand bottles, distributed by lottery.

The whisky is called 1770, after its predecessor. It is made in three styles: unpeated, peated and triple distilled. These are exactly the three that the original distillery also made.

The first two stills are called Tara and Mhairi, after relatives of the founders.

Frequently asked questions about Glasgow Distillery

How many bottles from the Glasgow Distillery does ’t Bockje have?

Four: three own bottlings under the name 1770 and a ten-year-old from the bottler Adelphi.

Why is the whisky called 1770?

After the original Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill, which was founded in 1770 and closed in 1902. The current company took over that name when it was founded in 2012.

How old can this whisky be?

Distilling has taken place since March 2015, so the oldest bottles are now about ten years old. The Adelphi on this page comes from those very first casks.

Which styles does this distillery make?

Three: unpeated, peated and triple distilled. Those are precisely the three styles the original Glasgow Distillery also made.

Which one is best to try first?

The 2nd Release of 1770. If you want it undiluted, the 52 percent version is the logical choice.

Does ’t Bockje also ship this whisky abroad?

Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
