Hachee with red cabbageMain courseHachee with red cabbage

Ingredients

  • 800 grams braising steak
  • 500 grams onions
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 500 grams red cabbage
  • 1 apple
  • 1 kilo potatoes

Method

  1. Cut the braising steak into pieces, sprinkle with salt and pepper and brown all over in butter.
  2. Add the onions in rings and fry them for 10 minutes until soft and golden brown.
  3. Add water until the meat is just covered, add the bay leaf, cloves and vinegar and simmer everything gently for 3 hours.
  4. Gently stew the red cabbage with the apple, cut into pieces, and a splash of water for 30 to 40 minutes.
  5. Boil the potatoes in salted water for 20 minutes until done and serve with the hachee and the red cabbage.

  1. Take the cheese out of the fridge about an hour before serving; that brings out the flavour best.
  2. Only cut or break the cheese just before serving.

  • 500 grams of Christmas stollen with almond paste
  • 50 grams butter
  • icing sugar

Method

  1. Cut the Christmas stollen into slices.
  2. Fry the slices in butter for 1 to 2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  3. Dust with icing sugar and serve warm.
