Why here

A herb you can harvest for only one week a year

The vine flowers in mid-June, and the blossom lasts a little over a week before it becomes a grape. Anyone who wants to use it for gin has to pick it by hand in that short window. That is exactly what happens here.

We have the floral Floraison, the spicier Nouaison in two versions and the fruity June with watermelon. If you are not sure which one you need, please give us a call. That is what we are here for.

About the gin

Gin from the land of cognac

  • What makes this gin different
  • The baseDistillate of ugni blanc grapes, not of grain.
  • The herbGrapevine blossom, picked by hand in mid-June.
  • FloraisonFloral; the name means blossom.
  • NouaisonMore herbal; the name refers to steeping the fruit.

G-Vine comes from the Cognac region, where ugni blanc has been distilled into brandy for centuries. For this gin that same grape is used as the base instead of grain, which gives a rounder, softer mouthfeel.

The trademark is the grapevine blossom. It flowers in mid-June and then turns into grapes; anyone who wants to use it therefore has to pick by hand within a short window. The blossom is placed in small bags in grape distillate and distilled separately, like the other botanicals. Only then does everything go into the still together once more.

The difference between the two main bottles lies in the emphasis: floraison means flowering and is the floral one of the two, nouaison refers to the moment the blossom sets fruit and is spicier, with more juniper.

The first genever drinks in France, Belgium and the Netherlands were not made from grain either. In that sense, this is an old idea in a new bottle.

Frequently asked questions about G-Vine

How much G-Vine does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Four bottles: Floraison, Nouaison in two versions and the June with watermelon.

What is the difference between Floraison and Nouaison?

Floraison means flowering and is the more floral of the two. Nouaison refers to the moment the blossom sets fruit and is spicier, with more emphasis on juniper and spice.

Why is vine blossom special?

Because the vine flowers only briefly, in mid-June, and the blossom then turns into grapes. So there is only a small window to pick it by hand.

Why grapes instead of grain?

Because that gives a rounder, softer mouthfeel. In the Cognac region ugni blanc has been distilled for centuries; here it serves as the base for gin.

Which G-Vine should you try first?

The Floraison. If you prefer a sturdier, spicier gin, the Nouaison is the better choice.

Does ’t Bockje also ship G-Vine abroad?

Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
