Why here

Thirty-nine bottles from a distillery that you will see nowhere else

In its entire existence, Benrinnes has had one regular own bottling: the fifteen-year-old from the Flora & Fauna series. The rest of the production disappears into blends. Anyone who wants to get to know this whisky will therefore inevitably end up with independent bottlers. We have thirty-six of those.

From 34 euros to a forty-three-year-old from 1978, the most expensive bottle in our entire shop. There are even two sister casks from the same vintage side by side, from the same bottler. Of eleven bottles we have exactly one left. If you are not sure which one you need, give us a call. That is what we are here for.

The two own bottlings

Benrinnes does not release more than that. That is not a shortage on our side.

About the distillery

Washed away, burned down, and still running

  • 1829A flood washes it away.

Benrinnes lies near Aberlour, at the foot of the mountain Ben Rinnes that rises above Speyside. Peter MacKenzie built a distillery there in 1826; three years later it was washed away in a flood. John Innes built a new one, a little further away, under the name Lyne of Ruthrie. After a bankruptcy the old name returned. In 1896 the whole thing burned down and was rebuilt.

Almost the entire production goes into Johnnie Walker and J&B. Whoever has a bottle of Benrinnes on the shelf has something the distillery itself hardly sells.

Wat is Flora & Fauna?

A series that Diageo has released since 1991 for distilleries that would otherwise never be sold as a single malt. Each label shows an animal or plant from the surroundings. For brands such as Benrinnes it is often the only official bottling that exists.

Veelgestelde vragen over Benrinnes

How much Benrinnes does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Thirty-nine bottles, all immediately available: three from the distillery itself and thirty-six from independent bottlers.

Waarom brengt Benrinnes zelf bijna niets uit?

Because almost the entire production goes into blends, mainly Johnnie Walker and J&B. The only regular own bottling is the fifteen-year-old from the Flora & Fauna series.

Wat maakt de smaak van Benrinnes bijzonder?

The way it is distilled. Between 1974 and 2007 it was partly triple-distilled here, and the vapour is still cooled in old-fashioned worm tubs. That gives a heavier, meatier whisky than you would expect from Speyside.

Which Benrinnes should you try first?

The Murray McDavid with port finish or the James Eadie ten-year-old are the cheapest way in. If you want the producer's own bottling, the fifteen-year-old is the classic choice.

What are sister casks?

Two casks from the same distillery and the same vintage, bottled separately. We have two pairs in stock: two Claxton’s from 2013 and two Adelphi’s from 2011. Tasted side by side, that shows how much the cask matters.

Does ’t Bockje also ship Benrinnes abroad?

Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
