Why here

Eleven casks from a distillery you never see

Glenlossie is a name that almost nobody has in their cabinet, and that is because the house only releases the ten-year-old from the Flora & Fauna series. Everything else has to come from independent bottlers.

We have eleven, from ten to twenty-seven years, including two from Adelphi, two Van Wees casks and bottles from Signatory, North Star, James Eadie, The Maltman and Càrn Mòr. From forty-six euro, so you can get to know it without taking a big risk. Not sure which one you need? Give us a call. That is what we are here for.

To start with

Six bottles of ten to twelve years

With the distillery’s own ten-year-old as the constant.

About the distillery

Purifiers on the still, and a neighbour nobody knows

  • The distillery in five moments
  • 1876Built at Thomshill, south of Elgin.
  • 1919Part of the Distillers Company.
  • 1929Fire destroys part of the still house.
  • 1962From four to six stills.
  • 1971Mannochmore is built on the same site.

Glenlossie lies near Thomshill, a few kilometres south of Elgin, and is named after the River Lossie. The distillery shares its site with Mannochmore, which was built next to it in 1971: two distilleries, one address.

What makes the whisky light and grassy is the purifiers on the spirit stills. They catch the heavier vapours and send them back into the still, so that only the lightest part passes on. You see the same principle at Glen Grant, and it produces a clean, floral spirit.

Almost everything goes into blends, mainly Haig and Johnnie Walker. As a single malt there is only the ten-year-old from the Flora & Fauna series. With that series Diageo gave a number of blend malts a bottle of their own after all in the nineties.

Two distilleries on one site, and you rarely see a bottle from either.

What is Flora & Fauna?

A Diageo range in which distilleries that work almost exclusively for blends were nonetheless given a bottling of their own, with a plant or animal from the region on the label. For many of those houses (Glenlossie, Benrinnes, Blair Athol, Dailuaine) it is still the only regular bottle that exists.

Frequently asked questions about Glenlossie

How much Glenlossie does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Twelve bottles, all available immediately: one from the distillery itself and eleven from independent bottlers.

Why does Glenlossie itself release so little?

Because almost the entire production goes into blends, mainly Haig and Johnnie Walker. As a single malt there is only the ten-year-old from the Flora & Fauna series.

What does Glenlossie taste like?

Light, grassy and floral. That is due to the purifier chambers on the stills, which hold back the heavier vapours so that only the lightest part gets through.

Which Glenlossie is best to try first?

The ten-year-old from Van Wees for forty-six euros, or the official ten-year-old from the Flora & Fauna series. If you want more power, the Signatory at 57.1 percent is a good next step.

What is Flora & Fauna?

A Diageo series in which distilleries that mainly work for blends were given a bottling of their own after all, with a plant or animal on the label. For Glenlossie it is still the only regular bottling.

Does ’t Bockje also ship Glenlossie abroad?

Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
