Why here

Three vintages of the same bottle

Since 2020 Glenturret has released a new edition of the same bottles every year, each time composed differently. We have the ten-year-old Peat Smoked in three consecutive vintages (2023, 2024 and 2025) and the Triple Wood in two. That makes comparing easy.

At the other end of the range is the thirty-three-year-old Trinity Provenance in a Lalique decanter: at 11,750 euros the most expensive bottle we have. Not sure which one you need? Give us a call. That is what we are here for.

About the distillery

Hand-stirred, since 1763

  • The distillery in five moments
  • 1763A lease deed mentions a distillery at this location; it began with smugglers.
  • 1929–1957Closed for twenty-eight years.
  • 2002The site becomes the Famous Grouse Experience; its own name fades into the background.
  • 2019Lalique and Hansjörg Wyss buy the distillery from Edrington.
  • 2020A completely new range from whisky maker Bob Dalgarno.

Glenturret lies near Crieff in Perthshire, on the River Turret. A lease deed from 1763 already mentions a distillery on this spot. It began with smugglers who made good use of the remote location and the clean water. That makes it the oldest working distillery in Scotland.

For a long time Glenturret was largely invisible. The whisky mostly went into The Famous Grouse, and the site was even converted into a visitor centre for that blend. There was a single malt of its own, but you had to travel far to find one.

That changed in 2019, when the French crystal house Lalique and the Swiss-American entrepreneur Hansjörg Wyss bought the distillery. They brought in Bob Dalgarno, who had previously worked for thirty years at Macallan, and launched a completely new range in 2020.

Until recently the mash here was still stirred by hand with a large wooden stick. That stopped because the people doing it ended up with shoulder problems.

What is Ruadh Maor?

The name under which Glenturret’s peated spirit appears at independent bottlers. The distillery released it itself as Peat Smoked; under its own name it is called Ruadh Maor. The peated part of production is now being scaled back in favour of unpeated whisky, so what is available now is finite.

Frequently asked questions about The Glenturret

How much Glenturret does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Fourteen bottles, all immediately available: five unpeated, six peated and three at the top.

Is this really the oldest distillery in Scotland?

According to a lease deed, distilling has taken place on this site since 1763, which makes Glenturret the oldest working distillery in Scotland. Other houses claim to be older based on illicit distilling; Glenturret has a document for it.

What is Ruadh Maor?

The name under which Glenturret's peated whisky appears at independent bottlers. The distillery itself calls it Peat Smoked.

Which Glenturret is best to try first?

The Triple Wood for forty euros. If you want smoke, the seven-year-old Peat Smoked is the bottle to go for.

Why has this whisky only recently become readily available?

Because most of it disappeared into The Famous Grouse and the site was even the visitor centre of that blend. Only after the sale in 2019 to Lalique and Hansjörg Wyss did it get its own range, put together by Bob Dalgarno.

What is the most expensive bottle in the shop?

The Glenturret 33 Years Old Trinity Provenance in a Lalique decanter, at 11,750 euro. Of those we have exactly one left.

Does ’t Bockje also ship Glenturret abroad?

Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
