Why here

Seventeen casks from an unnamed distillery

Glentauchers is one of the biggest suppliers for Ballantine’s and does not release a single bottle itself. Everything you can taste from this distillery comes from bottlers who occasionally buy a cask. Sixteen bottles together is therefore something you rarely see.

There is a lot of variety: from a Gordon & MacPhail at sixty euros to a thirty-one-year-old from Blackadder, and from 43 to 66.5 percent. There is even a cask included that was selected specially for a Dutch buyer. If you don't know which one to get, give us a call. That's what we're here for.

About the distillery

Built to deliver, never to stand out

  • The distillery in four moments
  • 1897Built near Mulben, on the railway line between Keith and Rothes.
  • 1930–1949Mothballed for almost twenty years.
  • 1965From two to six stills for the blends.
  • nowPart of Chivas Brothers and a pillar of Ballantine’s.

Glentauchers stands near Mulben in Speyside, on the old railway line between Keith and Rothes. As with Dailuaine and Auchroisk, that was the reason for the location. The distillery was built in 1897, at the end of the great whisky boom.

From the start this was a supplier. The whisky went into blends, and after the takeover by the owners of Ballantine’s, Glentauchers became one of the backbone malts of those blends. There has never been a permanent own bottling.

The style suits that purpose: clean, light and grassy, with apple and a soft maltiness. Exactly what a blender needs to round off a whole without any single malt dominating. That is precisely why it is nice to taste such a whisky as a single cask: then you hear the instrument without the orchestra.

A distillery that has been running for well over a hundred years and of which not a single bottle under its own name is in the shop.

Why is there only the work of bottlers here?

Because the owner needs the whisky for the blend and has no interest in building its own brand. Casks that are left over or come onto the market through traders are bought up by independent bottlers. That creates the odd situation in which a large distillery exists only through other people's bottles.

Frequently asked questions about Glentauchers

How many Glentauchers does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Sixteen bottles, all available immediately and all from independent bottlers.

Why is there no official Glentauchers?

Because the distillery was built to supply malt for blends, notably Ballantine’s. There has never been a regular own bottling; everything you can buy comes from independent bottlers.

What does Glentauchers taste like?

Clean, light and grassy, with apple and a gentle maltiness. That is exactly what a blender looks for: a malt that binds without dominating.

Which Glentauchers should you try first?

The Gordon & MacPhail at sixty euros or the eleven-year-old from Van Wees. If you want more power, the Signatory at 57.1 percent is a good step.

What is the most special cask on this page?

The thirty-one-year-old from Blackadder, of which we have exactly one left. And there is a thirteen-year-old selected specially for a Dutch batch.

Does ’t Bockje also ship Glentauchers abroad?

Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
