Why here

Much more than Old No.7

Everyone knows the black bottle. What most people do not know is that Jack Daniel’s also makes single barrels at cask strength, a bonded at fifty percent, a rye and even an American Single Malt aged in sherry casks.

We have twenty-nine of them, including nine special editions. If you do not know which one to pick, give us a call. That is what we are here for.

Old No.7 and Gentleman Jack

Seven bottles from the standard range, in all sizes.

About the distillery

The Lincoln County Process

  • Jack Daniel’s in five facts
  • 1866the year printed on the label; sources also give 1875.
  • Charcoalthe whiskey drips through a layer of sugar maple charcoal before ageing.
  • 80-12-8corn, rye and malted barley in the grain mix.
  • Limestonethe water comes from a spring in the limestone rock near Lynchburg.
  • Brown-Formanthe owner since 1956.

Jack Daniel’s stands in Lynchburg in Tennessee, at a spring that comes out of the limestone rock. The label gives 1866 as the year of registration; various sources say 1875 is the year Jasper Newton Daniel began. We would rather mention both than make a choice we cannot back up.

What sets Jack Daniel’s apart from bourbon is the Lincoln County Process. Before the distillate goes into the cask, it trickles through a layer of sugar maple charcoal. That takes away sharpness and gives the soft, lightly sweet style. The grain mix consists of eighty percent corn, twelve percent rye and eight percent malted barley.

Gentleman Jack goes through that charcoal twice: once before and once after maturation. The single barrels come from a single cask and are bottled at different strengths, up to 62.5 percent.

Because of the charcoal before the cask: that is exactly why it is not called bourbon.

Frequently asked questions about Jack Daniel’s

How many Jack Daniel’s does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Twenty-nine different bottles, from Old No.7 to a single barrel at 62.5 percent. All twenty-nine are available at the moment.

Why is Jack Daniel’s not called bourbon?

Because before maturation the whiskey is filtered through a layer of sugar maple charcoal, the Lincoln County Process. That puts it outside the definition of bourbon and it is called Tennessee whiskey.

What is the difference between Old No.7 and Gentleman Jack?

Gentleman Jack goes through the charcoal twice: once before the maturation and once after. That makes it smoother.

What does bonded mean?

Bottled in Bond is an American designation: at least four years old, from a single production season of one distillery, and bottled at exactly fifty percent.

Is the year 1866 correct?

That is the year of registration shown on the label. Various sources give 1875 as the year in which Jasper Newton Daniel actually began. We mention both.
