Why here

The entire Portuguese Collection side by side

Tomatin likes to work with wine casks, and that yields bottlings you rarely see complete on a shelf. The Portuguese Collection consists of three parts (moscatel, port and madeira), and we have all three. In addition a cognac cask, a monbazillac and a twelve-year-old sauternes.

Also the regular range from 29.99 euros, two releases from the peated Cù Bòcan series and three bottlings by Hart Brothers and Gordon & MacPhail. Not sure where to start? Give us a call. That is what we are here for.

  • Tomatin in four moments
  • 1897Founded as Tomatin Spey Distillery Co Ltd.
  • the 70sProduction rises to 12.5 million litres per year.
  • 1986The Japanese group Takara Shuzo buys the distillery.
  • 1987Tomatin is regarded as the largest malt distillery in Scotland.

Tomatin lies in the Highlands, south of Inverness, and was founded in 1897. In the seventies production grew to twelve and a half million litres a year; in 1987 the house was considered the largest malt distillery in Scotland. That capacity has since been reduced considerably.

In 1986 the distillery came into Japanese hands: Takara Shuzo took it over. That is less unusual than it sounds (Japanese whisky houses more often bought Scottish distilleries in those years), but Tomatin is one of the best-known examples.

Besides the regular, unpeated whisky, the house makes Cù Bòcan: a lightly peated malt that is distilled only one week a year. That explains why those bottles appear separately and are not in a fixed range.

Cù Bòcan is distilled for one week a year. The rest of the year Tomatin runs unpeated.
