Wat new make is
New make is het distillaat zoals het uit de ketel komt, vóórdat het het vat in gaat. Het mag geen whisky heten, want daarvoor moet er minstens drie jaar op eiken hebben gelegen. Wat u proeft is dus het graan en de gisting, zonder hout.
That is why it is interesting. Anyone who wants to understand what a cask does to whisky benefits greatly from knowing the starting point. Vossenberg sells it in one-litre bottles and even in five-litre cans, peated and unpeated.

Vossenberg is bewijs dat whisky maken niet veel ruimte vraagt: een stookruimte van ongeveer dertig vierkante meter in een schuur, een ketel van rond de honderd liter, en één man die er in 2018 aan begon.
The first small cask of about fifty litres was filled in November 2018. Five years later, in December 2023, the first own single malt was on the shelf, in a run of about a hundred bottles of half a litre.
Er wordt met kleine vaten gewerkt en per vat gebotteld, met wisselende vattypes. Dat betekent kleine oplages en flessen die niet terugkomen. Wat wij hier hebben staan is het ongerijpte distillaat; vraag in de winkel of er ook gerijpte flessen zijn.

How much Vossenberg does ’t Bockje have in stock?
Three bottles, and that is new make and not whisky.
What is new make?
The distillate as it comes out of the still, before it goes into the cask. It may not be called whisky because it has not yet matured for three years.
Where does Vossenberg come from?
Uit het veenkoloniale noorden, tussen Groningen en Drenthe. De distilleerderij werd in 2018 opgericht en is een eenmansbedrijf.
Maakt Vossenberg ook whisky?
Yes. The first own single malt was released in December 2023, in a small run. It is released cask by cask and sells out quickly.
Why a five-litre tin?
That is a size the house itself carries. For anyone who wants to put it into a cask themselves or compare a lot, that is practical.
