We keep one of the widest drinks ranges in the Netherlands, in a family business on the Brink in Bathmen. For Irish gins, that means not three or four choices but 8.
Like Scotland, Ireland has a wave of new distilleries that started with gin. We stock a number of them because they are smooth and approachable without becoming tame.

Most Irish gins come from distilleries that also make whiskey or plan to. Gin bridges the years while the whiskey is still in cask.
Typical are botanicals from the immediate surroundings: heather, elderflower, wood sorrel, seaweed from the coast or apple from the distillery’s own orchard.
The style is usually soft and floral, with the juniper clearly present but not dominant. That makes Irish gin a good first step for anyone who finds classic gin too sharp.

Is Irish gin softer than English gin?
Often, yes. Many Irish gins put floral and fruity botanicals alongside the juniper, which makes them come across rounder than a crisp London dry. There are also Irish gins that are dry and herbal.
