Why here

Why you will find Dutch gins here

We keep one of the widest drinks ranges in the Netherlands, in a family business at the Brink in Bathmen. For Dutch gins that means not three or four choices but 55.

The Netherlands has a long tradition of grain distilling, and you can see that knowledge in the gin made here. We stock a lot of Dutch gin because there is more to be found close to home than people think.

Not sure which one you need? Call 0570 541 278 or email info@bockje.nl. Tell us what you normally drink, and we will work it out together.

The juniper berry from which gin takes its name comes from the Dutch and Flemish jenever tradition. English gin grew out of it; the word gin is a shortening of genever.

Many Dutch gins are distilled at distilleries that also make jenever, liqueur or bitters. You notice this in the use of malt wine, grain and herbs that you come across less often in an English gin.

Then there are the new, small distillers, often with regional botanicals: sea buckthorn, pine shoots, hops or herbs from their own garden. Those bottles usually come in small runs.
