Why here

The complete Steamship range, plus the whole age ladder

Under the name Steamship Collection, Bushmills releases the same whisky on four different casks: bourbon, sherry, port and rum. We have all four in stock, so you can make that comparison at home.

Alongside that, the complete age ladder of single malts (ten, twelve, fifteen, sixteen, twenty-one and twenty-five years) and the blends from sixteen euros. Not sure which one you need? Give us a call. That is what we are here for.

The single malts

From ten to twenty-one years

All triple distilled and made entirely from malted barley.

About the distillery

Four hundred years of distilling on the River Bush

  • The distillery in five moments
  • 1608King James I grants a distilling licence for County Antrim.
  • 1784Hugh Anderson registers the Old Bushmills Distillery.
  • 1885A major fire destroys part of the distillery.
  • 2015Proximo Spirits becomes the owner.
  • 2023The new Causeway distillery is opening to be able to make more malt.

Bushmills lies in the village of the same name in County Antrim, on the River Bush and a stone's throw from the Giant’s Causeway. The licence of 1608 makes this the oldest licensed whisky distillery in the world; that year is on every label. The distillery itself was registered in 1784 by Hugh Anderson.

What sets Bushmills apart from most Irish houses is that no pot still whiskey is made with unmalted barley. Everything here revolves around malted barley, distilled three times in copper stills. That triple distillation gives a light, fruity and soft whisky, the opposite of smoke.

The blends here are unusual too: where most blends mainly contain grain whisky, Black Bush has a high share of single malt, matured in oloroso sherry casks. That explains why this bottle tastes fuller than you would expect from a thirty-euro blend.

In 2023 a second distillery, Causeway, opened on the same site to make more single malt. After four centuries, this house is still expanding.

What is the Steamship Collection?

A series in which the same whisky is finished in four different casks: bourbon, sherry, port and rum. The name refers to the SS Bushmills, the steamship the house bought in 1890 to ship its whisky directly to America. We have all four finishes in stock.

The blends

Five bottles from sixteen euros, with a higher malt content than is usual in most blends.

Frequently asked questions about Bushmills

How much Bushmills does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Twenty bottles, all immediately available: six single malts, five blends, seven cask finishes and two vintages from the Causeway Collection.

What does 1608 on the bottle mean?

The year in which King James I granted a distilling licence for County Antrim. That makes Bushmills the oldest licensed whisky distillery in the world. The distillery itself was registered in 1784.

Why is Bushmills so smooth?

Because everything is distilled three times instead of twice, as is usual in Scotland. That makes the whisky lighter and fruitier. No peat is used, so there is no smoke in it.

What is the difference between Original and Black Bush?

Both are blends, but Black Bush contains a much higher share of single malt, aged in oloroso sherry casks. That makes it fuller and darker in flavour. Original is lighter and cheaper.

What is the Steamship Collection?

A series in which the same whisky is finished on four different casks: bourbon, sherry, port and rum. Named after the steamship that Bushmills bought in 1890 to ship its whisky to America. We have all four.

Does ’t Bockje also ship Bushmills abroad?
