Why here

Prosecco at the highest level

With prosecco, almost everyone knows DOC and DOCG, but there is a step higher still: Rive. That means all the grapes come from a single hill or municipality, picked by hand from steep slopes.

We have one of those, plus a prosecco rosé and two still wines. If you are not sure which one you need, just give us a call. That is what we are here for.

The range

Four wines

Briefly explained

The three tiers of prosecco, and the pink newcomer

  • From wide to narrow
  • DOCThe wide prosecco area.
  • DOCGThe hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.
  • RiveA single hill or municipality within that area.
  • RoséOnly officially permitted since 2020.

Rive is the Venetian word for the steep slopes in the Prosecco hills. If it appears on a bottle, all the grapes come from one such slope, with the name of that village added. It is the smallest and strictest designation Prosecco has, comparable to a village wine in Burgundy.

Prosecco rosé is a newcomer: the name has only been officially permitted since 2020. A small share of pinot noir goes in with the glera grape, and unlike regular prosecco it has to age longer on the lees.

For the buyer, Rive mainly means: less volume, more provenance and a higher price. Whether that is worth it, you will best taste by putting it next to an ordinary prosecco.

Rive means steep slope. On a bottle it means: everything from one hill.

Frequently asked questions about De Stefani

How many De Stefani does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Four wines, from 16.95 to 19.95 euro.

What does Rive mean on a prosecco?

That all the grapes come from a single hill or municipality, picked by hand. It is the strictest and smallest designation prosecco knows, a step above DOCG.

Since when has prosecco rosé existed?

Since 2020 that name may officially be used. A small part of pinot noir goes into it, and it has to mature longer on the lees than ordinary prosecco.

What is the difference between DOC, DOCG and Rive?

DOC is the broad area, DOCG the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, and Rive a single slope within that area.

Is a Rive worth the extra price?

You will taste it best by putting it next to an ordinary prosecco. You pay for less volume and a more precise origin.

Does ’t Bockje also ship these wines abroad?

Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
