About DAVO Bieren
DAVO Bieren is the city brewery of Deventer, twenty minutes from Bathmen. It began in 2012 with small-scale brewing; in 2016 its own brewery with tasting room opened on the Sluisstraat, in an old industrial building.
The name is not new in the city. From 1867 there was already a DAVO brewery in Deventer, set up by the Cost Budde brothers. With today’s davo beers, the old name returns to Deventer’s beer history.
The brewers work according to what they call the three-pint rule: even after three glasses, a beer should still invite another sip. Well-known names are the blonde Caféracer of 5.8 percent, the Weizenbock of 8.8 percent and Darkness, a beer the brewery describes as a cross between a stout and a dubbel.
In addition to the taproom in Deventer, DAVO has taprooms in Arnhem, Zwolle and Twello.

What is a quadrupel?

The heaviest sibling of the abbey beers: dark, malty and usually between nine and eleven per cent. In the glass you taste dried fruit, such as raisin, plum and fig, with caramel and sometimes a hint of liquorice.
Unlike most beers, a quadrupel can keep for years. The alcohol and maltiness protect the beer, and over time the sharp edges become rounder. Some enthusiasts deliberately lay a few down.
Serve it at around ten to twelve degrees, in a goblet, with strong cheese or simply as a nightcap.
You can lay down a quadrupel for years. With most beers that would be a waste.
