About this bottle

Carlsberg is the pilsner with which the Danish brewery of the same name became known worldwide. It is a clear, bottom-fermented lager from Denmark with 5% vol, here in the 33 cl bottle.

J.C. Jacobsen koos in 1847 voor een terrein in Valby, toen nog buiten Kopenhagen, omdat er beter water en meer ruimte was dan in de oude stad. Hij noemde de brouwerij naar zijn zoon Carl. Toen die later een eigen brouwerij naast die van zijn vader begon, kwamen de namen Gammel en Ny Carlsberg in gebruik. In 1876 richtte Jacobsen er ook het Carlsberg Laboratorium op.

Herkenningspunt van het terrein is de Olifantenpoort uit 1901, met vier granieten olifanten die een toren dragen. In 2008 verhuisde het brouwen naar Fredericia in Jutland; de oude brouwerijwijk is nu een stadsdeel met woningen, kantoren en cultuur.

Ingredients

4 pizza bases
400 grams of tomato passata
3 balls of mozzarella
1 bunch of basil
4 tablespoons of olive oil

Method

Preheat the oven as hot as possible, at least 250 °C, with a baking tray inside.
Season the passata with salt and spread a thin layer on the pizza bases.
Tear the mozzarella into pieces, spread them over the sauce and drizzle with olive oil.
Bake the pizzas for 8 to 10 minutes until the crust is brown and the cheese is bubbling.
Top with fresh basil leaves and serve immediately.

Ingredients

160 grams young Gouda

Method

Take the cheese out of the fridge about an hour before serving; that brings out the flavour best.
Only cut or break the cheese just before serving.

12 bitterballen
mustard

Method

Heat the frying oil to 180 °C.
Fry the bitterballen for 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown and piping hot all the way through.
Drain on kitchen paper and serve immediately with mustard.
