Method
- Haal de kaas en de worst een half uur van tevoren uit de koelkast.
- Snijd de kaas in plakken of blokjes, de worst in dunne plakjes en het stokbrood in schijven.
- Leg alles op een plank met de olijven, de noten en een schaaltje mosterd.

- Take the cheese out of the fridge about an hour before serving; that brings out the flavour best.
- Only cut or break the cheese just before serving.

- 12 bitterballen

Method
- Heat the frying oil to 180 °C.
- Fry the bitterballen for 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown and piping hot all the way through.
- Drain on kitchen paper and serve immediately with mustard.

Hertog Jan is vooral bekend om zijn bovengistende speciaalbieren, zoals de Arcener Tripel, de Weizener en de Grand Prestige, en om seizoensbieren als het bockbier en de Lentebock. Het etiket noemt Nederland als land van herkomst.

De brouwerij staat in Arcen, in Noord-Limburg. Daar richtten vier bevriende brouwers in 1915 een nieuwe stoombierbrouwerij op, die zij De Vriendschap noemden. De brouwerij hoorde bij de eersten met bovengistend speciaalbier en staat daar nog altijd om bekend. Jaarlijks komen er meer dan 50.000 bezoekers op rondleidingen af, die ook de kelder met verschillende jaargangen te zien krijgen. De naam verwijst naar Jan I, de dertiende-eeuwse hertog van Brabant.
