A Scottish bottler heading for Sweden
That Adelphi, one of the most respected Scottish bottlers, picks two casks of Swedish whisky and bottles them under its own name says enough. We have both: a nine-year-old from 2014 and a ten-year-old from 2013.
Two consecutive vintages from the same distillery, both at cask strength. If you are not sure which one to choose, just give us a call. That is what we are here for.

- The distillery in brief
- NorrlandOn the High Coast, in the north of Sweden.
- ClimateWarm summers, harsh winters. That speeds up maturation.
- Former nameThe distillery was formerly called Box.
- AdelphiOccasionally selects a cask here.
High Coast lies on the High Coast of Norrland, the area in the north of Sweden that is on the World Heritage list. The distillery was previously called Box, after the old factory building in which it was housed, and later changed its name.
What makes the whisky there different is the climate. The difference between the warm summer and the harsh winter is much greater than in Scotland, so the whisky is pushed harder into and out of the wood. A year of maturation yields more there than a year in a cool, even Scottish warehouse. You can taste that in bottles that are young on paper.
Nine-year-old Swedish whisky often tastes older than its age. The climate does the work.
Frequently asked questions about High Coast
How much High Coast does ’t Bockje have in stock?
Two single casks, both bottled by the Scottish bottler Adelphi: a nine-year-old from 2014 and a ten-year-old from 2013.
Where does High Coast come from?
From the High Coast in Norrland, in the north of Sweden. The distillery was previously called Box.
Why does Swedish whisky mature faster?
Because of the big difference between warm summers and harsh winters. As a result the whisky is pushed in and out of the wood harder than in the cool, even Scottish climate.
Is it special that Adelphi bottles this whisky?
Yes. Adelphi is one of the most respected Scottish bottlers, and it rarely picks casks from outside Scotland. That it happened here says something about the quality.
Does ’t Bockje also ship High Coast abroad?
