Why here

Fourteen Specials side by side on one shelf

The regular Millstone bottlings (American Oak, Peated American Oak and the two rye whiskies) are stocked by more wine & spirits shops. What you rarely see together is the numbered Special series: one-off bottlings that each have their own cask and grain choice. We have fourteen of them, from number 17 to number 39, with a 27-year-old from 1996 as the oldest.

Alongside them the regular range from 29.95 euro, a new make to taste what goes into the casks, two bottles of Smuggler’s Trail and an independent bottling from Dram Mór. Not sure where to start? Give us a call. That's what we're here for.

Zuidam Distillers is located in Baarle-Nassau, the village on the border with Belgium. Fred and Hélène van Zuidam started the company in 1975; their sons Patrick and Gilbert now run it. Patrick is the master distiller and had the plan to make a Dutch whisky.

In 1996 the first experimental whisky casks went into storage. The name Millstone refers to the Dutch mills that grind the grain for the whisky.

The house lets the wash ferment for seven days, longer than usual, and distils slowly in small copper stills. Maturation takes place in self-selected oak casks; on a site of some 3,600 square metres lie well over a thousand casks. Nothing is added to colour or flavour.

Millstone comes in three main forms: unpeated single malt, peated single malt and rye whisky. The last is unusual in the Netherlands; most European distilleries work exclusively with barley.

The name Millstone refers to the Dutch windmills that grind the grain for the whisky.

Frequently asked questions about Millstone

How many Millstone does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Twenty-nine different bottles of whisky from Zuidam Distillers, fourteen of which from the numbered Special series. All twenty-nine are currently available. The current status is always in the online shop.

Is Millstone Dutch whisky?

Yes. Millstone is made by Zuidam Distillers in Baarle-Nassau, on the Belgian border. It is a family business that started in 1975 and has been distilling whisky since 1996.

What is the difference between Millstone and Zuidam?

Zuidam Distillers is the distillery; Millstone is the name under which the whisky appears. On labels and in online shops the two names are used interchangeably. Search for either one and you end up at the same bottles.

What are those numbered Specials?

One-off bottlings with a running number on the label. Each number has its own choice of grain, cask and age, from three years to twenty-seven years. If a number is sold out, it does not come back.

What do 92 and 100 mean for Millstone Dutch Rye?

That is the American proof designation: 92 proof is 46 percent alcohol, 100 proof is 50 percent. It is the same rye whisky, just bottled at a different strength.

Can I reserve a bottle and collect it in Bathmen?

That is possible. Order online and choose pick-up, or call us on 0570 541 278 and we will set it aside. Collecting from the shop at Brink 2 is free.
