Eleven bottles from Goa side by side
In most shops, Indian single malt is a single bottle. We have eleven from Paul John: three entry-level bottles, four cask selections including madeira and port, a Christmas edition, a travel-size bottle and a tasting pack of four small bottles.
Anyone who doesn't know it yet starts with Nirvana or Brilliance; the cask selections go up to well over fifty-five percent. If you don't know which one you need, give us a call. That is what we are here for.
Where to start with Paul John

Paul John is the single malt of John Distilleries, a company that started with blends in 1996 and with malt whisky in 2008. The brand was launched in London on 4 October 2012. Distilling takes place in Goa, in copper pot stills.
The barley is six-row Indian barley; for the peated bottles, peat is imported from Scotland. Maturation takes place mainly in charred American oak casks, partly in an underground cellar where the temperature stays controllable.
The climate is the big difference from Scotland. In tropical Goa, eight to ten percent evaporates from the cask each year, whereas a Scottish distillery loses about two percent. An Indian whisky of five years has therefore seen more cask than the number suggests.
Eight to ten percent a year into the air: that is what the climate does to a cask in Goa.
The cask selections
Four bottles where the cask or the peat plays the leading role.

Frequently asked questions about Paul John
How much Paul John does ’t Bockje have in stock?
Eleven different bottles, including a bottle of 20 cl and a tasting pack of four small bottles. All eleven are currently available.
Where is Paul John made?
In Goa, India, by John Distilleries. The company started with blends in 1996, with single malt in 2008, and launched the brand in London in October 2012.
Why does Indian whisky mature faster?
Because of the tropical climate. In Goa 8 to 10 percent evaporates per year from the cask, against about two percent in Scotland. The whisky therefore takes on cask character faster.
Is Paul John peated?
Partly. Brilliance is unpeated, Edited contains some peated malt and Peated is the distinctly peated bottle. The peat for it is imported from Scotland.
What is a Select Cask?
A bottling from a selected cask or a small batch of casks, often undiluted or at higher strength. We have the Classic, a Madeira and a port version.
Can I reserve a bottle and collect it in Bathmen?
