Why here

Three levels, two Amarones

As with Farina and Sartori, it is all about drying grapes here. The Arele is lightly dried, the Ripasso ferments over the skins of the Amarone, and the two Amarones are made entirely from dried grapes.

Anyone who wants to know the difference between those two Amarones: it lies in origin and ageing. Not sure which one you need? Give us a call. That is what we are here for.

To start with

Arele and Ripasso

Briefly explained

When do you serve an Amarone?

  • Practical points
  • StrengthOften fifteen percent or more.
  • With foodStewed meat, game, mature cheese.
  • Or precisely notIn Italy also as a finishing drink, without food.
  • StorageCan be laid down for years; a good bottle gets better.

Amarone is not a wine for with the pizza. Because the grapes are dried, there is far more sugar in the juice, and that sugar is converted into alcohol during fermentation. That is why an Amarone quickly reaches fifteen percent or more.

That makes it a bottle for a particular moment. With hearty food it works superbly: braised beef, game, or an aged cheese at the end of the meal. In Valpolicella itself it is often served without food, afterwards, to close the evening.

If you are looking for something in the same style for weekdays, the Ripasso is the logical choice: it picks up part of that power without the price and the alcohol percentage.

In the region itself, they often drink Amarone as a finale, instead of with the meal.

Frequently asked questions about Tommasi

How much Tommasi does ’t Bockje have in stock?

Four wines, from 19.99 to 49.99 euros, including two Amarones.

What is Amarone?

Red wine from grapes that are left to dry for months after the harvest. This concentrates the sugar and flavour, and the alcohol percentage quickly reaches fifteen or higher.

What do you drink with an Amarone?

With hearty food such as braised meat, game or mature cheese. In the Valpolicella itself, it is often served without food, as the closing note of the evening.

What is a cheaper alternative?

The Ripasso. It re-ferments on the used skins of the Amarone and so picks up part of that power, for a considerably lower price.

Can you store Amarone?

Yes, a good bottle can be kept for years and usually gets better for it.

Does ’t Bockje also ship these wines abroad?

Yes. We ship to around forty countries. Email info@bockje.nl if you want to know whether your country is included.
