Which gin suits which moment?

London dry is the classic dry style, with juniper clearly in the foreground. This is the gin for a gin and tonic that must stay crisp and spicy, and the type most cocktail recipes start from.

Pink gin is softer and fruitier, usually flavoured with strawberry or red fruits. A good way in for those who found gin too robust until now, and lovely with a tonic that is not too bitter.

Sloe gin is something quite different. Not a gin for mixing, but a liqueur of blackthorn berries steeped in gin: dark red, sweet-and-sour and low in alcohol. Neat after dinner, or as the base for an autumn cocktail.
