Why you will find sangiovese wines here
We keep one of the widest drinks ranges in the Netherlands, in a family business on the Brink in Bathmen. For sangiovese wines that means not three or four choices but 18.
Sangiovese goes by a different name in each area and changes character there too. We keep several bottles side by side instead of just one, so that the difference between the juicy and the tight style can be tasted.
Not sure which one you need? Call 0570 541 278 or email info@bockje.nl. Tell us what you normally drink, and we will work it out together.

Sangiovese is the most widely planted red grape of Italy. In Tuscany it goes by several names: brunello in Montalcino, prugnolo gentile in Montepulciano, sangiovese in Chianti.
Typical notes are sour cherry, dried herbs, tomato leaf and a slightly bitter finish. The tannin is firm and the acidity high. That makes the wine well suited to food.
That is why sangiovese is such a good table wine: the acidity cuts through tomato sauce, olive oil and aged cheese. Pasta, pizza, grilled meat and pecorino are classic pairings.
