Why here

Why you'll find cabernet sauvignons here

We keep one of the widest drinks shelves in the Netherlands, in a family business on the Brink in Bathmen. For cabernet sauvignons, that means not three or four choices but 79.

Cabernet is shaped by climate and oak ageing, and therefore differs greatly by origin. We carry several regions, and the blends in which cabernet plays the lead role are simply included in this list too.

The grape originated in Bordeaux as a cross between cabernet franc and sauvignon blanc. It has a thick skin, which gives plenty of colour, tannin and ageing potential.

You recognize it by blackcurrant and cassis, often with cedar wood, pencil lead or tobacco from cask aging. In cooler years and regions a spicy, green touch is added; in warm regions the fruit becomes riper and sweeter in impression.

Cabernet calls for fat and protein at the table: grilled red meat, leg of lamb, aged hard cheese. Young, robust cabernet perks up with an hour of decanting.
