Why here

Why you will find sauvignon blancs here

We keep one of the widest drinks selections in the Netherlands, in a family business on the Brink in Bathmen. For sauvignon blancs that means not three or four choices but 61.

Sauvignon blanc from Sancerre tastes different from sauvignon blanc from New Zealand or Chile. We put those origins side by side, so that you can taste where the difference lies instead of having to take one on trust.

Not sure which one you need? Call 0570 541 278 or email info@bockje.nl. Tell us what you normally drink, and we will work it out together.

The grape is originally French and has two classic homes: the eastern Loire, with Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and Bordeaux, where it is often combined with sémillon.

In New Zealand the grape got a second life in Marlborough. That style is more exuberant: passion fruit, grapefruit and a juicy acidity. The French version is more restrained and more often mineral or smoky.

Drink it young and well chilled, at around eight to ten degrees. With goat’s cheese, asparagus, green herbs and dishes with lemon, sauvignon blanc almost always hits the mark.

Frequently asked questions

How many Sauvignon Blancs does ’t Bockje have?

61 different ones, from 53 wine houses. Current price and stock are in the online shop.

Why does sauvignon blanc smell of boxwood?

That is due to aroma compounds that occur naturally in the grape. In small amounts you smell gooseberry and boxwood; if the grapes were harvested less ripe, that green note becomes sharper. It is a characteristic of the grape, not a flaw.

What do sauvignon blancs cost?
