About this bottle

P. Mertes Morio Muskat is een Duitse witte wijn van de druif morio-muskat, gebotteld door Peter Mertes in een literfles. De druif werd in 1928 gekweekt door Peter Morio op het Geilweilerhof in Siebeldingen in de Pfalz. Lang gold hij als kruising van silvaner en weissburgunder, maar DNA-onderzoek wees in 2013 uit dat de tweede ouder de muskateller is. Volgens het verhaal had een medewerker destijds bewust ander stuifmeel gebruikt. De meeste aanplant staat in Rheinhessen en de Pfalz.

Peter Mertes started in Minheim on the middle Moselle. Since 1969 the company has been based in Bernkastel-Kues, the little wine town on the Moselle. From the Moselle it expanded in the 1950s to the Rhine regions around Bingen, Nierstein and Oppenheim, and in the 1960s to the Rheingau and the Nahe.

De Morio Muskat druif ontstond in 1929 uit een kruizing van de Rivaner en de witte Burgunder. De Morio Muskat wordt hoofdzakelijk in de Pfalz en in Rheinhessen verbouwd. Deze wijn is een lieflijke zeer bloemige wijn met een aangename hint van Muskat.

Ingredients

500 grams of Christmas stollen with almond paste
50 grams butter
icing sugar

Method

Cut the Christmas stollen into slices.
Fry the slices in butter for 1 to 2 minutes per side until golden brown.
Dust with icing sugar and serve warm.

With the cheeseStilton

Ingredients

160 grams Stilton

Method

Take the cheese out of the fridge about an hour before serving; that brings out the flavour best.
Only cut or break the cheese just before serving.

StarterGoose liver pâté with brioche

Ingredients

120 grams of goose liver pâté
1 brioche
2 tablespoons of fig jam

Method

Keep the pâté cold until just before serving and slice it with a knife dipped in hot water.
Slice the brioche and toast the slices until lightly golden.
Serve the pâté on the warm brioche with a small spoonful of fig jam.
