Why you will find English beers here
We keep one of the widest drinks shelves in the Netherlands, in a family business on the Brink in Bathmen. For English beers that means not three or four choices but 9.
The English tradition is the opposite of the Belgian one: less alcohol, more drinkability. A small but permanent row on our shelf.

English ale is top-fermented and often between 3.5 and 5 per cent. That is deliberate: the beer is made for the pub, not for a single glass.
English hop varieties give earth, tea and flowers rather than the citrus and tropical fruit of the American ones.
Porter and stout originated here; the modern American stouts go back to them.
