The Spanish beer tradition is younger than the northern European one and relies on light, bottom-fermented beers of around 4 to 5 per cent.

For some years now, a group of smaller breweries working with ale styles has joined them.

With tapas, a Spanish lager works better than a heavy beer: it washes away salt and oil without overpowering the flavour.
